penalty for using false ID?

I have discovered that my 19 year old son has a false driver's license that allegedly will be used to purchase alcohol or enter clubs where alcohol is served. I would like to apprise him of the potential penalties for this. Would appreciate any advice.

Depending on the state, being in possession of a false ID can be a misdemeanor, but attempting to use it as ID can be a felony.

No matter the state, he could go to jail if caught with it.
