Paternity Laws-International boundaries

I have a son who was born here in the United States, and the biological father is a citizen of Brunei. The father, if I am not mistaken, is a political figure in their country. Since my son was born in 1993, I have made attempts to contact him, however, I have been unsucessful. Is there hope for me to open a case given the complexity of our situation? I believe my child has certain rights and is protected under certain international laws? Geneva convention maybe?I am not sure what to do. where should i go from here? Should I just forget it? Somehow, I feel I owe some kind of answers to my son. Is there anyone who could help us?

You will probably have to consult an attorney with experience in international family law.

The US has reciprocity agreements with some countries, but Brunei isn't one of them:
