My best friend was just told by a girl he has been having sex with for the past months that she is pregnant. Now my friend is not yet 18 but he is close. And the girl is almost 17. They are not married nor boyfriend - girlfriend, merely "sex with no strings attached" friends. Child was an accident and he does not want it and neither does she but she has decided to keep it nonetheless.

Whats in store for them? The girl has said that she doesnt want him in the childs life if he does not want to be and to sign his rights away.
Though after reading some of the posts on here i've come to conclude that isnt possible. What will happen to my friend? Again hes not yet 18 and is a full time student. His parents do not allow him to work as they want him to focus 100% on schooling and getting into college and graduating.

What will he have to pay? Do?

Any advice will be GREATLY appreciated

Let make this clear. If Mom does not name Father and Father does not seek to establish paternity the child has no Father. Now if Mom seeks public assistance they will require her to name Father. When that happens the state will seek him out for support. Now other thing to consider is the issue of his own feelings. He may now not seek any part of this child but someday he might. Without establishing paternity he has no rights to child and Mom doe snot have to allow him to see child. Mom could even marry and allow another man to raise even adopt his child!

Jacksgal is right, but I have to say there is NO SUCH THING as "no strings attached sex." Both she and your friend should be ashamed of themselves for feeling inconvenienced by this child. You mention full time student, and focusing 100% on school, but here he has a child that he is not man enough to raise? Shame on him. I realize this is an advice board and not a morality board so I am probably out of line giving my opinion but that sort of selfishness is sickening.

Poor child.

Ok. After speaking to her mother we learned that she has been diagnosed bi polar in the past and has pulled the being pregnant stunt at least 3 times on separate guys. I mean she is just sick. Her mother ranted on and on of her mental problems and behavioral problems. Shes been hospitalized and i mean just the works. Lying, cheating, stealing, juvie hall, medications.

After the talk she went home and made her daughter take 2 tests which both came negative. Now a day later her mother txts my friend saying that her daughter may have tricked her with the tests and is going to schedule a blood test next week.

Now my question is, if she is in fact pregnant, will her background illnesses and problems affect whether or not the court will let her keep it even if she wants to?

Yes. And they will still make you (or your "friend") pay child support for your "no strings attached sex." God help this child.

Your friend is about to face the consequences of sex. Were they using any protection at all? If she is pregnant, then your friend has the right to file for visitation and he should get used to supporting the child. If she is not pregnant, then your friend dogdges a bullet and need to insist on condom usage each and every time. If he thinks condoms are expensive (which they arent), try supporting a child.

choose adoption

if they didnt want the baby then they shouldnt have been having unprotected sex. your friends best bet is to find an adoptive couple who wants a child.
