Daugher graduated w/BA & has now has OPT. To qualify for Masters program under F1 student you need 9 credits per semester. Masters program only has 6 credits per semester & professor says that it compares to 12 credits in the amount of work required. Professor says would be possibly too much work for her to add a class which she does not need anyway.

Question: While OPT can she do POST BA &/or Masters classes thru a Virginia authorized on-line University for teacher credentials & still work under OPT? Her F1 does not look like it plays part in the on-line university. Only criteria is to provide on-line university w/true copy of BA from the VA university attended.

If on-line university contact VA university she attended would the VA university feel daughter was doing something wrong & mess up her OPT & F1/I20 status?

Appreciate your response

Once she applies to a university while on OPT, then the OPT automatically cancels. Once a school admits you, you are no longer on OPT. So she either works or goes to school. Immigration does not allow graduate students to take less than nine credit hours unless they are still in school and working using a co-op program at their school. International students should go only to universities whose full time match immigration full load requirements. Immigration and most universities in most cases would not let an international student take more than 3 credit hours online while taking six on campus. They would not let you take a class online if it is your only class. So she should talk to her international adviser...................at an immigration accredited school.
