Hello,

This might be a stupid question, but I'm helping somebody start a business in a different state and they asked me to sign a non-disclosure agreement. In the agreement it states I may not make any publicity or disclose any knowledge of my participation or discussions with this person to the public. This person also gave me another contract to sign and they request I get a public notary on both contracts and send them back.

Doesn't that kind of breach the contract?

No.

A notary is a quasi-official that certifies it was you who signed the documents you placed before him/her.

A notary attests to the authenticity of your signature.

Thanks. It just sounded a little overbearing with the word participation. Almost as if we both signed it in front of a notary then it would be a breach. I understand that a public notary is just concerned with the application of the signature and nothing more now. Since it is a 'public' notary I didn't know if more might be implied.
