New trump's tariffs on china

Hi,

We've all seen that President Trump has imposed new tariffs on goods coming from China.

From what I've understood the new tariffs will be paid at the time of entry into the US. So if your company imports goods directly from China you'll get hit by the new tariffs.

Now let's say there's an intermediary company in Europe that buys the goods from China and sells it to the US company. The goods no longer come from China, it comes from Europe, so are you still eligible to these new tariffs ?

That's not quite how it works.
In short, no. The tariffs would not be applicable, however the cost of the product would still be higher as the European company offsets its cost to acquire the product and deliver it to the US.
The idea behind the tariff is to direct you toward a domestic option at a cheaper cost.

A consumer could feel the sting of a tariff by paying an increased purchase price.

However, the hidden cost of buying goods produced outside the USA is lost jobs, federal and state transfer payments using tax dollars to subsidize displaced US workers.

The Chinese economy exists only as a function of the massive US economy.

If the US produces our own widgets, chachkes, trinkets, junks, whatchmacallits, and thingamabobs; eventually the so called Chinese economy sputters to a halt.

Trump correctly states that certain corrupt US interests have made our economy an ATM for the planet.

Contrary to the myth, the USA can be entirely self sufficient.

We were told that consumer costs would decrease if we USED Mexico, China, EU nations, etc to produce our junk. Consumer prices increased and US jobs were given away.

Prove this to yourself.
Look on any cereal package, or any other grocery product, it rarely says made in the USA. It might say made in Canada. It probably says DISTRIBUTED BY Some Company, Anycity, Somestate, USA.

Source of origin is deliberately hidden, and people are potentially consuming POISON, killing tnemselves, while paying HIGHER prices.

The tariffs are but an arrow in the US economics quiver.

Hold on, if you wish to live and see our nation thrive.
