My tree extends into my neighbor's property. He had the tree trimmed (only on his side of the property line) because he thought it was getting to close to some power lines. He now wants me to reimburse him the cost of the tree trimming. Do I have any obligation to reimburse him?

He had the right to trim the tree.
You aren't required to acquiesce to his demands.
If he wants to be reimbursed, he'll have to sue you.
If he wins, you still aren't required to pay.
He'll have to collect his judgment.
But, as long as Yiu aren't sued, and a court doesn't order you to pay; you don't have to pay.
Tell him to sue you.
Or, choose to pay him.

Agreed. If he wanted you to pay he should have checked with you first. It isn't likely he would win a judgment if he should try to go that far.

Tell him to send a bill to the power company. They have an easement to trim trees from power lines. He might collect between the end of the world and when Hell freezes over.
