The contractor that hired us drilled holes (big enough for my feet to go through) into the ground. Underneath the holes is a parking lot. On top of the holes is the pile of debris that they asked us to removed. We were NOT inform of the holes, nor were we aware of it on day one. On day two was when we noticed the holes and told the contactor that there's holes in the ground. He simply said, oh yes, let me get someone to go block off the parking area underneath it.

What happened on day one was that debris fell down the holes and damaged the vehicle that was parked underneath it.

The contractor demanded that we investigate the situation since we were the only one handling the debris or else we would have to suffer the consequences should he have to give them his insurance information and find that we are at fault.

After the accident, the superintended (who instructed us on day one), had said that those holes were blocked and things shouldn't have been able to fall down.

We were the only ones handling the debris, but the superintended neglected to inform us of the holes. Are we still liable?
