I had agreed with at business owner in town to purchase their business for a specified price. They furnished me with an inventory list, tax returns, etc. I went to the bank, got the money, quit my job, and on my last day of work, the business owners called and told me that they were selling to someone else. The owners knew that I was taking over the business on a certain date. We had their inventory for collateral on a loan, I had a business checking account and a tax ID number. We did not have a written contract. Now I am out of a job and a business. Is there anything that I can do? I am in Mississippi.

You don't necessarily need to have a written contract in all cases, but it surely helps a lot. This case depends on a lot of details so what you should do is consult an attorney and have him evaluate the case.
