Name Change

Hi everyone,

I am wondering what is the procedure to get my name (including my last name) changed?
I've been following my father's last name and i want to have my mom's family name as my last name. do i need to go to a lawyer for that? i've found some online websites that you can do this, is this safe? how long will the procesure take? how it can/might affect my credit etc etc.

Any info will be great, i am almost graduating from college and i want to change my name ASAP before everything has a last name i don't want printed on them.

Each state has a different procedure and the reason why we have the extra field for putting in the state you are in!!! State government web sites will typically have all you will need. You do not need to pay a lawyer or any web site to help you. Here is an example for the state of California:
