Criminal Law moving to the states with a criminal record

i have recently met someone and we are very much in love. i have a retail petty theft charge from 7 years ago that i got in canada. he is american and i am canadian. i am currently in the process of obtaining a pardon. i have no other convictions. i want to know how hard it will be to move there to be with him with having this record even after i get my pardon and will it still be there for gaining employment over there. please help i am totally lost about all this stuff. confused in canada. thanks bye for now.
 
As I have written probably a thousand times here, aliens with criminal records cannot be admitted to the U.S. unless they fall within an exception. The exception in your case might be this:

you have only one prior conviction for a crime of moral turpitude (which theft is)
the conviction was for not more than 6 months in jail
the maximum possible sentence for the crime was less than one year

Only if you fulfill all three conditions the exception would apply. Watch especially the third one!

A pardon doesn't change anything.

As stated by NYclex:

This will be the third one he mentioned.
