I am desperately seeking advice on how to prepare and represent myself in court for modification of a prior order for custody of my children... PLEASE HELP ME !!!! The kids father and I have been in court behind this for 4 years, in which the ending result was mediation and a final order that said that we had joint custody with him being the one to designate primary residence. Well on April 1, 2007, their dad brought the kids to me and told me that he wanted the kids to be with me, but he did this because the girl that he was with broke up with him. However, I had my children from April 1st until yesterday when he took it upon himself to go to the school that I have had my children settled in since April and transfer them and take them away from me because he has made up with that girl !!! When I asked him why he was doing this, he told me " because he wants to !".... I also feel the need to let it be known that during the period of our custody battle, I was unable to see my children for my regularly scheduled visits. A lot of unnecessary "drama" was trying to transpire, but I did not indulge in it. Turns out that their dad has 8 different charges of assault against him, the most recent being in August of this year. I have not been sitting around idly, I have been at that courthouse regularly. I actually obtained the petitions and order for what I am trying to do, but I am now getting the run around because I am representing myself. I was told to go and do some research, but the problem with that is I cannot continue taking off of work. I was told what paperwork to obtain and told that I could get a hearing set, but from what the court clerk is telling me, I need to research and find out what to do next because I cannot set the hearing right now... So, being that I can't continue to take off of work to go to the courthouse to look up stuff that I don't understand, can someone please tell me what steps to take in order to accomplish getting a hearing set ? And help me understand how to represent myself during the hearing ?
