is there an Illinois statute that governs how charges can be made for a mittimus? In particular, if a prisoner is being brought to court for 3 different charges, can a mittimus charge be made for each charge? or only one?

Do you know what a mittimus is?
A mittimus is a writ to the sheriff authorizing said sheriff to incarcerate a person.

MITTIMUS

A court order directing a sheriff or other police officer to escort a convict to a prison.
A mittimus is a written document. It can command a jailer to safely keep a felon until he or she can be transferred to a prison. A mittimus also refers to the transcript of the conviction and sentencing stages, which is duly certified by a clerk of court.

That said, if a person has been arrested for three felonies, he or she can be housed based upon the arrest until a judge arraigns the prisoner.

If a person has been convicted, a mittimus ALWAYS issues subsequent tot he conviction and prior taking the person into custody, especially after the accused has been out on bail or ROR awaiting trial.

Usually the mittimus is of very little consequence in the judicial proceedings, so what prompts your inquiry?
