I was stopped at a license check a couple of weeks after I moved to North Carolina from Virginia. The officer smelled marijuana smoke and placed me in his cruiser while he searched my truck. He found a quarter of an ounce of marijuana and during the check it came back that my license were suspended in VA for an unpaid fee that I had no knowledge of.
I got a citation for possession of marijuana and driving without a license. I contacted VA DMV the next morning and took care of the fees and my license was reinstated. Then I went to NC DMV and got my license for NC and the plate for my truck.
I have not had a ticket of any kind for over 13 years. I am low on funds after the move and would like to find out what I am facing if I do not hire a lawyer. I would appreciate any advice on how I should proceed.
