Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft Misdemeanor or infraction what is the difference?

I am thinking the "infraction" was marked because of the value of the property. If this was for a shoplifting offense, it is likely that local agency or DA policy is for PC 484 to be cited for low value thefts under $50 that are a first offense. It is likely that the formal charge will be PC 490.1 (which is the infraction for shoplifting). It is generally less expensive to handle these matters as an infraction than a misdemeanor.

Your best option is to take the citation to a Police Officer or Attorney. Since we cannot see ticket we can only guess they will know
