MD front tag law

The Maryland House of Delegates passed legislation back in the 2013 legislative session. The legislation tried to add a legal "loophole" about mounting a front license plate on a motor vehicle. House Bill 577 was to have eliminated a front license plate in vehicles that had no means to mount a front plate on the vehicle. The bill never became a law.

Cars bought in states that require only a rear license plate are delivered without the front mounting bracket. You can visit a dealer and purchase a front license plate mounting kit, if the car is newer, most dealers will give you the mount.

The kits probably cost less than a traffic citation for no front license displayed. If my memory is correct those tickets run about seventy five bucks. It's best to maintain your car properly, if for no other reason than to NOT offer a law enforcement official a reason to stop you.

The violation is of a secondary nature, and doesn't affect your insurance or driving privileges.
