I got married July 4th this year. My wife has moved out and wants a divorce. She was very violant in the final week leading up to her leaving. I did file a police report but had only minor marks on me and evidence of broken items.
Our commity property in the 6 weeks married is for the most part a vehicle I bought for her for $5200, a dining room set at $235, and community debt of $13,000 of which some of that was used to buy the car - it was a personal 401K loan.
I want to do this simply and self file. She is asking for the car - without any money back to me. I don't think this is fair. I am concerned because I make much more then she does and have a house and a 401K account from before the marriage.
I do not know where she is and she has changed her phone number. I have basically been abandoned.
A lawyer told me that an "on line" no fault divorce kit would not protect me from her going after other assests after the divorce. Is this true.
Advice on what to do now is appreciated.
