Married but separated

I am currently married ans separated but not legally. My ex is pregnant by another man. I know New York State law says that I am responsible for these children(twins). However I have heard there is a paper i need to sign to release myself from responsiblity of these children. Is this true? And if so where should I go to find such a document?
