If are children are grown, we are both professionals with good paying jobs and my wife wants a seperation. If I make $50,000 more than her (NY State) do I have to pay her maintenance?
If you make 200K and she makes 150K, then maybe not. If you make 75K and she makes 25K, then probably yes. Other factors are considered in the decision to award maintenance as well.
