lemon laws

I bought a 1993 trans am on saturaday and i was driving it on monday and the car made a load bang and the clutch will not work not sure what the problem is yet havent took it to a repair shop but i was wondering if the lemon law pertains to bying a car from a private person or if there is anything i can do? my bank put a stop payment ont he check and i contacted the person tonight he is being very difficult i offerd to spilt the cost of the bill and he told me he was goin to take me to small claims court. I just wanted to no if anyone had any advice for me on what to do i have never had this happen to me and not sure on what kind of rights i have.
