I witnessed a family court judge telling a new attorney (just out of law school?) to put on his jacket/coat, sternly.
Is there such a dress-code for attorneys in court in CA?

Yes, most courts have local rules pertaining to attorney behavior, forms of address, and attIre.

I'm a senior judge (meaning retired) in Texas and I sometimes serve in assisting case overlays and as a visiting jurist. As officers f the court, all attorneys must be dressed in business attire. For males, that means suit and tie at all times.

In the UK, only barristers wear the beautiful wigs.
The word wig is short for periwig, derived from the French word for a wig, perruque. Wigs were worn to indicate one's ability to set prejudices and biases aside whether serving as prosecution or defense attorneys, and even as jurists.

"beautiful wigs"? Lol! I beg to differ. I wonder how that would go down with lawyers here in the U.S.
I believe former British Colonies (e.g. Canada, India, etc.) continue to use the wig?
