While on vacation, the upstairs tenet's pipe broke due to a plumber poorly snaking the drain. It caused gray water flooding in my downstairs apartment. The landlord isn't charging me rent as I stay at friend's places, but are they expected to pay me due to the short term notice?

What are the landlord's responsibilities in regards to my damaged property?

It is unlikely the plumber poorly snaked the drain. Pipes get old. When they do, they break. You should be carrying renters insurance to cover unforeseeable damage.
