Can my landlord break my lease and put me month to month because they want to sell my house?

No, your landlord can't change the terms of your lease unless you agree to the changes.
You can suggest to your landlord that you might be interested in him making you an offer to move early.
If such an offer is made, get it in writing, and don't leave unless he pays you, IN CASH.
Otherwise, tell him or her, you're staying put until your lease expires.
