F Visa L1 to F1 URGENT!!!

I have an L1B visa which is valid upto 2010. After 1 or 2 months, my sponsor company is likely to send me back to my country. Because I want to pursue my study, I want to join a university.

1. Can I stay in US with the purpose of study?

2. After I obtain I-20 from the univ., must I go back to my country or some other country to obtain F1 visa?

3. Can my sponsor company interrupt me if I want to quit the company and join univ.?

You can convert from L-1 to F-1, but the DHS will question your intent. It is difficult to get an F-1 b/c you have to show a certain amounts of assets to prove that you can pay for your costs of living while in school. You can do it once you satisfy the employment conditions with your employer or if they are okay with it.
