just got laid off, who do I inform about lowering child support?

I've been paying 617.00 for the last 6 years but have just been recently laid off, my child support was started through the state of VA, but neither my child's mother nor I live in VA any longer, if that makes a difference. I'm currently in FL while she lives in Louisiana, my question is who do I inform about the loss of my job and will I have to go through the courts in order to get it lowered, at least until I'm able to find another job?

Go through the courts that child support amount was established. Yes go through the courts even if your childs mother agrees because she could always turn around and say she never agreed to a lower amount. Good luck.
