Less than three months ago I was in the ER at a hospital in Michigan being treated for mental health issues. During this time period the hospital called my family and let them know I was there, then they visited me in the ER and the staff gave my keys to family members. I called the hospital today and they said that they do not believe this is a HIPPA violation, I believe it is
Please post objective and clear reasoning as to why or why not you think this is a HIPPA violation. Thank you.

If you desire a complete analysis of your query, hire yourself a lawyer.

What this lawyer will say for FREE is, I agree with the what the hospital told you.

Fail, because it's HIPAA, not HIPPA.

Hippa is a genus of decapod crustaceans in the family Hippidae.

I will "post objective and clear reasoning" about this issue as soon as you "post objective and clear reasoning" as to why you "believe this is a HIPPA [sic] violation."

The Hippa doesn't look sic, though I admit it's hard to tell.

Your keys are not PHI. Not covered at all by HIPAA.

The rules for disclosure are different in the case of mental health patients than treatment in general. Further, if you are deemed incapacitated, they are expressly allowed to contact your family. There's not enough information in your post to determine if there is a violation.

You're free to file a complaint with HHS: Filing a HIPAA Complaint

Understand, you don't get any direct course of action (you won't get money over a HIPAA violation).
