Is there a time limit on a Plaintiff to proceed after Defendant has filed a response?

Synopsis: Served with Petition from Plaintiff, Defendant filed response within appropriate time frame, what is the next step and how long does the Plaintiff have to proceed with the case after the response has been filed? If Plaintiff doesn't respond timely, when can the Defendant file a motion to dismiss?
