The Davenport Police called me and said at the beginning of last month I am on store surveillance video and shoplifted. The Police want me to come in to receive a couple tickets and not go to jail. I was arrested in the middle of last month for shoplifting and went to jail. I want to know what happens if I don't go to the police station. I don't live in Davenport or in that county.
You serve yourself BEST if you IMMEDIATELY consult a couple of local defense attorneys near you.
The call might have been a prank or a scam, or the Davenport Police may now be arresting by invitation and appointment only.
In unknown situations its always best to have someone you trust protecting your rights and interests.
If you ever have shoplifted, wake up and stop.
The fact that you reside outside of Davenport, as long as its Iowa, this will affect you.
If you reside in one of the other 49 states, a misdemeanor in Iowa may not impact you.
States rarely extradite misdemeanor offenders, but the warrant(s) will remain active.
If a warrant is issued, you could get arrested (or detained) in some nearby states, until the arresting agency confers with the county where the warrant(s) issued.
If this is all a big misunderstanding, you might endeavor to get everything straightened out quickly.
You desperately require a live, licensed Iowa attorney to see you through the very troubled waters that loom ahead of you in 2015!!!!!
