Indentured Servitude?

I am currently working in a contract position with the government through January, 2009. At the end of that period my obligation to my contractor "ASI" will be fulfilled. However, in the contract paperwork I signed there is a section referred to as "Legal Right to Represent". In the language of that section, in summary, it stipulates that if I, within 6 months of the termination of my contracted position, obtain full-time, direct employment in the same position I had previously been contracted to perform, I would be forced to compensate "ASI" in the amount of 25% of my first year's gross income, within 30 days. I would like to know if it is legal to hold me hostage, even after my contract period with "ASI" has ended. It feels like I'm an indentured servant. This seems illegal, even though I signed a contract to that effect. Please let me know if I there is any legal precedent that prohibits this kind of hostage holding, or if I'm legally bound to the terms of this contract.
