indemnity

My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: Oregon

I was accused via a civil suit of a very serious offense, which I did not commit. My employer was also named in the suit. The case went all the way to a civil trial, where both the employer and I were found not liable.

During the course of the investigation, I was terminated from my position -- the matter of cause is open to legal debate (I held a position that only can be terminated with cause). The cause issue not been settled in any manner and there are no findings against me.

After the civil trial mentioned above concluded, my attorney approached the employer, requesting:
a. reinstatement to my position or a similar one
b. compensation for legal expenses (the employer had refused to provide representation for me, saying the matter was outside the scope of employment)

The employer has responded by denying my claims and saying that they will sue me for indemnity, as they incurred considerable expenses defending a claim which they say was caused by my actions.

Does the employer have a valid claim?

Thank you for the advice.
