I have a question if you were to accidentaly link a site to underage pronography and afterwards destroy your computer could ytou still get in trouble what would be the recourse of action?

thanks som888

Not enough information here to give you a good answer.

What I am asking is if you accidentally clicked a link to a Website with illegal pornography such as cp and say the site was being monitored by the authorities and you destroy your computer afterwards because your ip was logged on the site the authorizes would think your were a pedophile looking for kicks and investigate you or possibly arrest you for looking at cp.could they still arrest you if you got rid of the computer.

What a dilemma, huh?

How do you accidentally find a child porn website?

If it was an accidental intrusion, seems to me that would be a great defense, if you were later arrested.

However, if you found the child porn website by chance and lingered an hour, two hours, three hours, even 30 minutes; that might not be considered an accident.

I'm wondering, if it was an accident, why would you destroy a perfectly good computer?

Whatever you do, if you are arrested, make no statement.

Ask for a lawyer, or hire one on your own. Let your mouthpiece do the talking. Loose lips, sink ships.

Accidentally visiting a site is not illegal, even if there is illegal content on it.
Anyone monitoring your Internet activity would be able to show how long or how many times you accidentally viewed the illegal content, which may support or disprove your claim.
Destroying the computer does not destroy all evidence of your history. A search warrant to the Internet provider could still reveal incriminating information.

Still, your question is vague, and it is not possible to give an accurate answer without some specific circumstances.

As you imply here, if it was an accident and the user quickly left the site and was not perusing and downloading content, there is not likely an offense. As mentioned above- it is not common for one to accidentally visit these sites.

To you guys implying it was not an accident you must not have heard of the website 4chan thats were the mistake happened it is a cess pool over there i have recently found out Internet pranksters dupe you in to doing things like that. the reason i asked this question being that it was an accident how would the authorities know it was an accident i don't visit or download or print or save any illegal material.im not a sick person but since i did make a wrong click i was wondering could i possibly be in trouble.

If you stayed there for 30 seconds, 60 seconds, even 90 seconds that would be a mistake.

If you stayed 3, 4, 5 minutes or more, it probably wouldn't be considered a mistake.

If it was as nasty and disgusting as you implied, it wouldn't take very long to know that you should get the heck outta there.

Anyway, who knows what the authorities might do?

Whatever they do, if you're arrested, make no statements and ask for a lawyer.

Whats the statute of limitation for an offense like that?

som

I wouldn't worry about that.

It could be 2, 3, 4 years or more.

But, you could have been indicted and the indictment sealed.

That happens if the investigation is ongoing.

If that is the case, it'll start again, once you've been arrested.

The better question is, when did this alleged mistake occur?
