I AM PLANNING ON MARRYING A MAN WHO IS PRESENTLY INCARSERATED IN COLORADO (STERLING CORRECTIONAL FACILITY) AND I AM WONDERING HOW I WOULD GO ABOUT DOING THIS. I HAVE HEARD THAT IT MIGHT BE A "PROXY" MARRIEGE....ALTHOUGH I AM NOT SURE WHAT THAT IS. ANYONE WHO MIGHT HAVE SOME INSIGHT I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT!! WE ARE PLANNING ON GETTING MARRIED IN DECEMBER

What's the rush? Why not wait until your fiancee is out of jail? It might also help you with determining the stability of your marriage.

My understanding is that in many states the inmate will need to petition the warden to be eligible for marriage by proxy. Regardless, there are rules regarding whether an inmate can marry, e.g. some states do not permit marriage with an inmate with a death sentence.
