I was 18 at the time, I know it was incredibly stupid. I ended up paying the fine that they gave me because I felt so much guilt for what I did. I don't know if this will affect my college education, financial aid, or future employment. I've been on quite a few websites all giving me different answers. Im just really scared because this one website told me that this will affect my whole career.

If you paid the tribute demanded, you'll probably never hear anything more about the "incident"!

Your name might be in a retail database of known THIEVES.
That means NOTHING unless you want to work for some retailers.

If things are as you report, it's all over.
Now, every "incident" can end differently.
Most "incidents" end when the tribute has been paid.

I am a Retail Theft consultant and answer questions like yours daily. Without a court date there is no criminal. The only record will be with the store and any retail theft database they "might" subscribe to. As stated above this is not an issue unless you plan to work retail.
