i was in a failing relationship when i found out i was pregnant with my daughter who is now 8 months old. i'm married to a differant man now, but i've had contact with my childs father. paternity was just established (he left me when i was 4 months pregnant) he denied custody up until she was 4 months old and he threw a fit when he found out i was married and said he was going to take full custody of her out of spite. he now says he wants to sign over his parental rights. so this leaves me with two questions. first, if he decides to try to get sole custody what should i do? my ex and i both have jobs (although i get more hours and better pay), our housing situations are about the same, he's in and out of relationships, i already have medical insurance and day care for my daughter. what other factors go into it? it seems like the most he would get is joint custody. but i fear for that because he saw nothing wrong with his dad kidnapping him after his dad lost all custody rights. he is also extreamly hot tempered and mentally unstabel and refuses to take medication for it. i fear if he was granted any custody that my daughter would end up dead. he can't even take care of himself. i'm not saying that because i'm his ex, trust me. he doesn't eat, shower or brush his teeth unless told to. how would he be able to do those things for a child or teach her to do them?
my other question is if he does go the sane approach and sighn over his rights, how do we go about doing that? what forms do we need, what legal action has to be taken first? we will have a child support case coming up in the next month or so, could he bring it up then?
