How to amend a death certificate

I have just learned that my brother lied to the funeral director who did the death certificate for my deceased father. He changed the status of the deceased, from single to divorced. He was hoping to force the claims department handling my beneficiary claim, to pay the money to my mother. My parents never legally married, so how can I get the death certificate amended to his true status at the time of death?

Also, when I examined the death certificate, I noticed that while it says Divorced, under "Name of Surviving Spouse or Partner," it also says, NONE.
