Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft How long is petty theft kept on file?

Hi everyone,

I've been booked into a city police station for petty theft about 2 years ago. The merchandise was worth about $100. It was a first time and a one time case.

I am wondering how long will the record stay on file. I am worried because i am afraid that this will affect me finding jobs later after college and other things as well.

any info will be very helpful to me.

What you probably want is expungement, if you are eligible. Sealing is also an issue. Threads that discuss this can be found here:
