How long do you wait to be paid?

Last week I started a new job, and Tuesday this week I was fired. My first few days the manager kept telling me that he really liked me and had a good feeling about me. He said he was thinking about making me the sales manager, then the next day he fired me before I could clock in. He said he hired too many people and had to let 30% of the staff go.

My friend that worked there for 4 weeks was also fired, she hasn't been paid once yet! In fact, no one there has been paid in over 4 weeks. I'm worried that they are not going to pay me, the manager said my check would be ready on Thursday, yesterday. It wasn't ready then, and it wasn't ready yet today either. Another issue is that I lost my uniform shirt and he said I'd have to turn it in before I could get my check, can he hold my check for that? And how long do I need to wait before I could sue for my paycheck? Could my friend who hasn't been paid in 4 weeks sue now? I read that I could sue for 3 times the amount of the remuneration and the business would have to pay for my litigation fees. Is this true and what could I do to increase the odds of winning the case?

In Ohio, you can file a complaint with the state DOL. To the best of my knowledge, Ohio is not one of the states where you can get penalties over and above the actual wages you are owed. So you may as well take the route that will not incur you any costs.

BTW, Ohio is one of the few states that does not have a statutory date for when final pay is owed.
