I am wondering how I get my monthly child support collected by Washington State and sent to me. Does anyone know how this is done? I did not have legal representation during my divorce (final 12/02) due to threats of my ex-husband if I did. I have since had to beg for my child support every month. Sometimes I get it, sometimes not. Any advice?

Hi,
I was able to go through my county clerks office at the superior court. If you know where your ex. works you can fill out an order of assignment and send it there. That way, the employer knows that your ex. has to pay support. Once they establish how much it is, they will begin to deduct it from his paychecks. It will then come to you in the mail. You don't even have to see him or ask for money. Enforcing payment if he changes jobs or is unemployed is the hard part. Good luck!

I am in California, but I'm sure you have something similar. We have a service called Child Support Services and a you fill out all paperwork with them...they open the case for you, they get the order for wage assessment and they deduct from wages.

Also, you can contact the county in which the child was born / you reside / the custody case is. Oftentimes they will have a self-help center that can help you fill out the proper paperwork.
