Homeowners Insurance rights in Florida for house

My wife and I are looking to purchase a home in Southern Florida. During the process, we've heard that homeowners insurance can sometimes not be possible, especially for real estate near the coastline. I can understand it is more risky there. What I am concerned about are the horror stories I hear about rapidly rising insurance costs and a deluge of denied or substantially reduced claims and worse. Is there some type of regulation that makes sure that this industry deals fairly and that I won't find myself with a home that shortly after purchase will be deemed uninsurable? I'm thinking along the lines of the health insurance marketplace.

Homeowners property insurance in Florida is in shambles. Ultra high rates, restricted coverage, high percentage deductibles. And it's all happening within the regulations. The state runs its own insurance company for people who can't qualify for standard insurance. It will be worse for you as a new resident with no local insurance history.

You can count on a hurricane every year with windstorm damage. Sometimes multiple hurricanes. Florida was in my claims territory 20 years ago. The insurance issues were bad then but are so much worse now.

Here's a forum for Florida health insurance.
