My wife and I are looking to purchase a home in Southern Florida. During the process, we've heard that homeowners insurance can sometimes not be possible, especially for real estate near the coastline. I can understand it is more risky there. What I am concerned about are the horror stories I hear about rapidly rising insurance costs and a deluge of denied or substantially reduced claims and worse. Is there some type of regulation that makes sure that this industry deals fairly and that I won't find myself with a home that shortly after purchase will be deemed uninsurable? I'm thinking along the lines of the health insurance marketplace.
