My parents live in Iowa and have a video system in their living room for when my mother is home alone. She went in for surgery and we didn't think to turn the camera off. A house cleaner came in while we were all gone, (with our permission) but she definately over charged us as the neighbors saw her leave 3 hours before she said she left. We do not plan on taking this to court but rather to make her aware that we do have proof she over charged us. Is this illegal to videotape without asking this cleaner for her permission or notifying her? We didn't think about turning it off so we forgot to even mention it to her. Thanks kindly for any replys..

No, it is not illegal. The housekeeper has no reasonable expectation of privacy in your parent's living room.

You can still make her aware without telling her she was recorded.
