I have seen a lot of e-mails in regards to HOA. My questions are: Are HOA mandatory or optional? Is there a law like the right to work laws in North Carolina? I was told that I could not apply for a mortgage in a house if I did not join the HOA. Can they do that? I have nothing against HOA's but this one in particular I saw no benefits at all, so did the real state agent that was trying to sell me the house. But she did say that I needed to join in order to buy. Is that legal?
