Alcohol & Drugs: MIP, MIC, Intoxication Help in writing letter of leniency to judge

I need to write a letter to a judge asking for leniency regarding my minor marijuana possession case that occurred in Southern California in May of last year. I lost my apartment 2 weeks after appearing in court in July. I lost my job a week after the apartment. I've been moving around from friend to friend since then and have since relocated back to the Bay Area. I am still currently unemployed and still without a permanent residence so traveling back to Southern California is not really an option at the moment, nor is paying the $1500 to remove the warrant in my name. I've never written a letter like this and want to see if I might be able to get some assistance. Anything you can recommend?
