Help for my nephews

My Sister and her Childrens Father have both abandoned their children, their mother left them and their father has had a criminal record and had left his children prior to my sister leaving them. The father has been in prison on and off for the past 15 years. The boys are 9 and 11 they have been living with my brother and his wife for the past 6yrs. They have legal guardianship of them. Recently the father who is out of prison but on probation was granted temporary custody of one of the boys and is trying now to get the other one. It can be proven that both parents are not capable or stable to have these children. What rights do my brother and the childrens grandparents have to protect and keep these children. I am trying to help them with any advise.
Who would be a good attorney in this area to take this case? This would be in New York State near Albany.Thank you in advance for any help.

Start calling around to family law attorneys in the area. Your brother needs to file for custody of both kids asap. why did the courts grant the father temp. custody of only one of the boys? Did your brother show up for the hearing? He needs an attorney asap.
