Hello
My daughter is 27 years old, lives in Ontario Canada with no criminal record, and is a single mother of 2,
6 months ago she began injecting heroin, (we now have her kids)
she has the following charges against her:

  1. Theft under $5000

  2. Theft under $5000

  3. Theft under $5000

  4. Possession of stolen goods under $5000

  5. Possession of stolen goods under $5000

  6. Possession of stolen goods under $5000

  7. Failure to comply with recognizance

  8. Failure to attend court

  9. Possession Schedule 1 substance

  10. Possession Schedule 1 substance

  11. Possession Schedule 1 substance

  12. Possession Schedule 2 substance

  13. Obstruct Peace Officer

She was offered diversion on the first theft under $5000.00 charge however never completed it. She also has 10 possession of stolen cheque charges coming her way as well as 10 charges of cashing the fraudulent cheques, worth a total of approx. $10,500.00.

Could anyone offer insight into the likely penalty she will face for these crimes, and also would enrollment into an inpatient residential treatment program for her drug addiction be more of a benefit to her than day programs or counselling? Without residential treatment is there a strong likelihood of jail time?

All of these crimes have where fueled by her drug addiction, she has never been in any trouble in the past. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

She lives in Canada.
We only know US laws.
However, if she did this in any of the US states, PRISON would be in her future.

She'd probably receive anywhere between 5 to 15 years, give or take 3 or 4 years.

She'd be eligible for parole after 3 or 4 years.

In the US those charges are SERIOUS felonies!!
