Can a person be convicted on the word of a convicted criminal (who was convicted of the same crime the other is being tried for) without any evidence supporting the statement

It would be possible. However, it would be up to the judge/jury to decide based on the specific case & information they have. The decision/conviction would most likely be decided on more than just the criminal's statement though.
