Gossip or Character Defamation?

It was brought to my attention by a friend who works in our local bank that while at a bank meeting with other employees they were talking about my 16 year old daughter who is an active community member volunteer with a very good reputation. This conversation between bank employees was over my daughter being pregnant (which she is not). My daughter is very upset. I did confront several of the bank members that had attended the meeting and they said yes they were talking about my daughter being pregnant. Each pointed the finger at others with the "I didnt say it, he/she said it". My daughter is also a customer with money in their bank. Is this gossip or do we have grounds for Character Defamation?
