Getting custody of my kids that live in NY from FL

I have 3 children from a previous girlfriend and she moved to NY 4 years ago. I have been trying to see them and she refuses. Now she has no apartment and is running from DCF because she does not want to live with her grandma as she has been told to do. I want to seek custody but I live in Florida and they are in NY. How do I go about beginning the process? Do I seek a lawyer here in Florida or in NY? Will I have to go back and forth from FL to NY for court dates or is there some way of doing it from FL? Do I have a good chance of winning? I have an apt. and a job and she has no where to live and no job. Please any advice is needed since no one can find her or my children.

If she is in Ny then you need to hire a NY attorney. It is going to be difficult for you to get custody given you are out of state and how much have you seen the kids? Was paternity even established? Why did you let her move to Ny and not dispute the move with thge courts?
