I hired a gardener I use occasionally to come and trim my tree. While doing this, he cut his leg quite badly just below the knee when one of his tools fell onto his leg. He was bleeding badly and I took him to the emergency room, which provided stitches. Now he asked me to pay his medical bill of $3000. He is a legal alien, but apparently did not have Medicare paperwork as he chose not to sign up (his family is currently getting documents and apparently didnt want to sign up).
Am I liable in any way to pay medical costs for his accident, even though he chose not to have medical insurance??
