Florida Elder care law and Nursing homes

Hello,

My dad is absolutely convinced that there is a law in Florida (where he lives) that forces him to be placed into a nursing home at some point. I keep telling him that this cannot be so. An MD must refer a person to a nursing home and I can only imagine that this may be so if a person has no representation nor any assets and cannot care for themselves?? In any case, I keep trying to get him to tell his caregivers and his family what he does and does not want should he not be able to express it himself. He is losing his ability to remember things and he lives alone. I tried to get him to move to CA (where I am) a couple of years ago and he did move here but only for 2 weeks, then went home. Unfortunately, my sister (who is the executor) drove him to go home... I just want to be sure there is no such 'law.' His mother died in a nursing home and he is convinced that they killed her (not so sure he's wrong about that...). He keeps saying he will talk to an attorney but he never does it.

Thanks for your help
